Home Networking with cat5e?
My local phone company hooked up my outide phone line on my brand new house. the two lines that come into the house are Cat5e and end in the attic. the whole house is run with cat5e only. I don’t plan on having phone service just internet so I thought this setup was great because connecting the rj45 jacks is a piece of cake. but the modem qwest provided is for dsl and only has a telephone recepticle as a line in. So how do I wire the phone jack to be best for the dsl modem?
They provided me with a data number and there isn’t cable in my area
The two lines coming out of the phone box have 4 twisted pairs and say Cat5e on the jacket. And they end in the attic where it <i>is</i> easy to get to.

Why does my mobo have 2 ethernet ports?
I did my first build like about 2 years ago and I noticed my mobo has 2 ethernert ports. I have a hard wired internet connection with no router and just my computer hooked up to it.
What is the 2nd ethernet port for and can I plug in a 2nd computer into it so that computer would have internet access in lieu of having a router? Sometimes I might like to have a friend come over with their laptop so we can both surf the web at the same time.
